Hello, I am Haley and I am 16 years old. I am the biggest animal lover you will ever meet! I am very educated on training and MANY more topics.
You might not believe me, but I know more about animals than most adults. It saddens
me to hear of so many animals that are homeless and unloved. It is a shame that innocent pets are being put to sleep daily throughout the U.S. I decided
that I wanted to do something to help out. Can you help save a life?
Please, if you would like to help out in ANY way to end this, please contact me!
Please read this story:
I went to Gwinnett County Animal Control with my friend and dad so
that we could volunteer and see the animals. While we were there, there were people coming in every couple of minutes, turning
in their dogs. A sweet Collie was turned in because "it shed too much". But the dog that caught our eye was, i'd say, a dalmation
mix with a pinkish/tanish kind of "stained" looking coat. It was so cute and looked to be about a year old or less. It was
very sweet, but you could tell it was scared and unsure of the place.
The mom and 2 sons who came in to turn in the dog, were hispanic (not that that matters..just trying to
give you a hint of what they were like). I went over to ask if they were turning in and the oldest son said yes. I asked why
and he told me because his mom said that they were moving into another apartment that doesn't allow dogs. My friend and I
watched the whole process of them turning the dog in and it broke our hearts. But then, the guy at the desk said "Your dog
doesn't have its shots. You know that if you turn it in, it will automatically be euthanized."
That made my friend and I start to cry and the family didn't even seem like they cared. My friend
and I went out of the shelter and cried our eyes out. When we went back in, the man was putting the dog in the cage. I asked
the boy, "so, are you still going to turn it in?" and he told me yes. I was so mad at the family!! How come they don't care?
No one shed a tear or even seemed to care at all. Before they left, the boys went to the kennel where the dog was and the
boy I had talked to, just waved and said "Bye, Spotty." That was the saddest thing ever! They walked out and my friend and
I went to the kennel to console the sweetheart and cried to it saying how sorry we were. We could tell, this dog knew its
fate...
Then about 5 minutes after that, we went outside to get a drink in the car and talked about how sad it
was and how irresponsible they were, how mad we were and how we thought it was so sad how humans ruled the world and how the
dog has to suffer because of the owners' irresponsibilty...and when we went back in, the man had a leash in his hand and put
it on the dog and walked away with the dog down the hall. We thought it might be moved to another kennel or something.
The guy came back with the leash, but no dog. We went throughout the shelter looking for the dog. No sign
of it... so we asked the man if he put it to sleep and he said yes. All this we had to be exposed to. The sweet dog we had
just met, had been euthanized! Just like that! Because of irresponsible owners. If you don't show a sign of sadness giving
your dog up, then you shouldn't have had one.
The dog didn't look very healthy either. I think they got it when it was a puppy because it was "so cute".
UGH! Some people just don't understand how to properly care for their animals. That was the most emotional day and it was
reality. I don't understand why people turn into animal controls. Take them to a no kill shelter! I thought I should share
it to get my emotions out and to show people what happens and to persuade more people to adopt.
When we were having our drinks in the car, I asked my dad if we were allowed, if we could adopt it and
give it to my friend who was with me because she was looking for a new dog and she said her mom would let her if she told
her the story. My dad said yes. He was crying in there, too when we heard that the dog would be PTS. But they couldn't adopt
out a dog with no shots.
